What Is Malocclusion?

Malocclusion of the teeth is a misalignment issue that can influence severe oral health complications.

It’s also known as Crowded Teeth • Crossbite • Overbite • Underbite • Open Bite

The teeth will not be able to complete vital functions if they are misaligned. Learn how to protect your overall oral and digestive health and treat any bite-related issues you may have.

How Would I Know If I Even Have A Bite Related Issue?

Problems with the way your teeth fit occur in several different ways. Some bite-related issues cause discomfort or even pain. That pain can disguise itself as problems that you would not immediately associate with your teeth. Some bite problems can produce significant damage to your teeth without creating any obvious discomfort.

There are some pretty easy ways for anyone to detect when a problem with their bite is causing, or at least adding to pain or discomfort.

The At Home Clench Test

With your mouth empty, and nothing separating your teeth, close your mouth and squeeze hard. If tensing your teeth together produces any sign of pain or discomfort in any tooth, you have a disharmony in your bite.

Use the clench test to detect if increased sensitivity is linked to an uneven bite. Squeeze hard. If you can get any tooth to hurt by empty mouth clenching, your bite is reasonably the main reason for your sensitivity. This test is a good way to find out if a filling or crown is not in unison with the rest of your teeth. If it hurts when you clench, it is probably not in perfect balance with a correct bite. You should be able to bite down hard and move your teeth collectively in all directions without feeling major discomfort in any single tooth if your bite is perfectly balanced.

Biting on an unaligned filling or crown can make the tooth tender or sore, and frequently causes the tooth to have a sensitivity to cold. In addition to the sore tooth, your jaw muscles may also become irritated as they try to avoid striking the affected tooth.
